    1. RIP to one of my favorite artists, Claes Oldenburg. My favorite works of his were the proposed colossal monuments that were never made and never would be made, like the giant toilet float balls for the Thames.

    There is hidden unspoken humor to most of his works. Like the baseball bat in Chicago. In his book he describes the original plan was for the bat to spin at the speed of light so people would see it as solid rather than wireframe — and it’d rip anyone’s arm off if they touched it

      Cupid’s Span in San Francisco (commissioned by Gap) by Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggenx has a normal nice artist’s statement about ships, Eros, etc.. However, I read a while ago rumor was it secretly it was also a commentary about the sweetheart tax deal Gap got from SF
